The Perfect Coin Collection

To the expert rare coin collector, the “perfect” coin is one flawlessly struck with sharp, crisp lines, no scratches, and the only one of its kind in the world!

The Smithsonian Museum actually houses several coins close to our mythical “perfect” coin. The value of those "perfect" coins today would probably be between five and ten million dollars each.

In the real world, coin collectors have limited time and fixed resources available to build their coin collections. That means each of us must target a certain area of the coin market and find "RARE" coins that you like, but are also affordable to your budget.

We feel it's important to focus on building a collection of coins that are truly rare, highly collectible, and desirable for you to own today and that will be easy to sell later.

To get started, we feel collectors should build a relationship of trust with an experienced firm with knowledgeable rare coin experts like Austin Rare Coins. Together, we can establish goals, define budgets, and make recommendations to guide you along the way.

How We Approach Building A Collection
Our Austin Buying Trust is devoted to searching out undervalued rare coins. These are coins whose rarity and current price level makes them a good value in our opinion. While we always search for rare coins that we feel have strong, long-term profit potential, we always look first for a coin with a great numismatic story, a coin that appeals to both collectors and historians. Then, we focus on rarity and insist on coins with superb eye appeal.

Sadly, sometimes new collectors look only for low priced coins. Often they buy cheap coins listed on eBay or other auctions. Sometimes new collectors overlook the obvious: coins that can't command top prices today are selling cheaply because they are very common, uninteresting, worn, have spots, or may just be plain unappealing.

Typically, coins that are unappealing today will be nearly impossible to sell later at a profit. Take our advice– try to acquire the finest rare coins in the grade, pay a fair price, and you'll be in position for the best long-term returns.
