1865 SS Republic Shipwreck In a terrible hurricane off the coast of Georgia, the S.S. Republic sank in 1865. The recovery by the famous Odyssey began in 2003 and tons of coins have been recovered, including some of the finest known pieces in the world. 1846 S.S. New York Shipwreck Coins
The tragic 1846 sinking of the S.S. New York in the Gulf of Mexico was almost lost among the war against Mexico. Americans were fighting to save Texas and losing many lives on the battlefields, so the story of the S.S. New York was almost forgotten until 161 years later. 1857 S.S. Central America Shipwreck Coins

Over 425 men and many tons of gold were thought to have been lost forever. 1865 SS Brother Jonathan Shipwreck In July of 1865 the side wheeler steamship the SS Brother Jonathan sailed from the harbor in San Francisco overloaded with cargo. On board was a treasure chest of gold mined during the California Gold Rush Days. A gale kicked up shortly after
the
Brother Jonathan left port and the storm continued to worsen. Around one o’clock in the afternoon, the ill-fated steamer
passed Crescent City, California, hitting the Saint George
Reef. The impact was so jarring that both passengers and crew were
tossed overboard.
