1762 Colombia 8 Escudo | PCGS AU 53
Introducing the 1762-NR JV Colombia 8 Escudo, a magnificent historical treasure certified by PCGS in AU-53. This large gold coin was issued around 250 years ago and is literally one of only FIVE examples known in all grades between PCGS and NGC combined! Coins don't get much rarer than this, and certainly not for this kind of money.
Minted in Colombia in 1762, this 8 Escudo coin showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of the era. Its design features intricate details that transport us back to the colonial period, evoking images of a bygone era and the grandeur of the Spanish Empire.
The person depicted on the front of the coin is King Charles III of Spain, also known as Carlos III. The lettering around the edge of the obverse, "D-G-HISPAN-ETIND-REX-1792-CARLOS-III," can be translated as "By the Grace of God, King of the Spains and the Indies, Carlos III, 1792." On the reverse, the lettering "MAGNA-SEQUOR-J.V.-N-R-NOMINA" can be translated as "I follow great names" with "J.V." referring to Joaquín Vásquez, the Assayer of the Mint in Nuevo Reino (present-day Colombia) during that time.
Its impressive design, combined with its prestigious certification, make it an investment-worthy piece for both seasoned collectors and those new to the world of numismatics.
