1845-O | $5 Liberty Gold | NGC | AU58
The 1845-O Liberty Head Gold Coin is a remarkable piece of American numismatic history, minted during a time of expansion and change in the United States. This coin, certified by NGC in About Uncirculated 58 (AU-58) condition, showcases the Liberty Head design, a classic representation of American freedom and tradition.
The original mintage was only 41,000 and today very few have survived the test of time. In fact, under 300 are known in all grades combined with this being well in the top 20% known. A similar coin just auctioned for $9,000 publicly.
On the obverse, the Liberty Head design features Lady Liberty facing left, wearing a coronet inscribed with "LIBERTY." She is encircled by 13 stars, representing the original colonies, and the year of mintage, 1845, is prominently displayed at the bottom. This design reflects the nation's ideals and the artistic craftsmanship of the mid-19th century.
The reverse side of the coin displays the heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching arrows and an olive branch. Above the eagle, the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" encircle the design, and the denomination "$5" is inscribed below. This depiction symbolizes the strength and unity of the United States during an era of growth and development.
With its AU-58 certification from NGC, this coin retains a significant amount of its original luster and detail, with only slight signs of wear consistent with its age. Its historical significance and collectible appeal make it a valuable addition to any numismatic collection.
