Introduction

The 1852 Liberty Head $10 Gold Eagle is a classic piece of American numismatic history. Certified by NGC in Mint State-61, this coin represents a significant period in U.S. coinage. The Liberty Head design, often referred to as the Coronet Head was used on $10 Gold Eagles from 1838 to 1907, making it one of the most iconic designs in American coin history.

This is a fantastic, mint condition, Pre-Civil War Gold $10 with a fantastic overall look. A PCGS MS61 recently sold for $8,400 at auction, so we love the price of this one.  The mintage was 263K and today under 1,400 are known in all grades combined.  This "blaster" is one of 46 in the grade with only 21 finer, placing it well in the top 5% of all known survivors--making it one of our top current recs in rare US Gold at the moment.

Design and Craftsmanship

On the obverse, the coin features a profile of Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with the word "LIBERTY." Her hair is gracefully styled, and the design is surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The date, 1852, is prominently displayed below her portrait.

The reverse showcases a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other, symbolizing peace and strength. Above the eagle's head, the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches gracefully, while the denomination "TEN D." is inscribed below. The detailed design elements and the coin's high relief exemplify the artistry of mid-19th-century American coinage.
