1856 Hand on Book | Mexico 8 Escudo | NGC MS 63
This 1856 Hand on Book gold 8 Escudo from Mexico is an absolute blaster! Many of these issues come softly struck but this stunning Mint State 63 is fully detailed and centered dripping with original mint luster.
The design is one of our favorites when it comes to world coins. The reverse depicts the seal of Mexico to this day, with an eagle on a cactus holding a snake in its talons. The obverse shows a hand holding a pole with a cap on the top, about to write in the book of law.
Graded Mint State 63 by NGC and struck in Culiacan, Mexico, its difficult to find coins with such attractive eye appeal and truly proof like surfaces. Amazingly, PCGS and NGC combined have certified only 23 of this issue. This is one of five in Mint State 63 with just two known finer.
Containing over $1400 worth of gold alone, we feel high end examples of this series are overlooked and undervalued. Coin shown is the exact coin you will receive. Highly recommended and one of the finest coins we have seen from this series from 1823-1873.
