1857-S $20 Liberty PCGS MS-62 - Ship of Gold
This stunning 1857 San Francisco Double Eagle was recovered from the SS Central America shipwreck, referred to as the "Ship of Gold."It was carefully curated to enhance its natural beauty and has been certified and graded by PCGS to be in Mint State 62 condition. Each coin in this exclusive release comes sealed in a specially-designed PCGS holder to protect the intricate details of the coin.
In addition, each holder contains a pinch of gold dust recovered from the shipwreck. Bob Evans, the Chief Scientist and curator of the find, has hand-signed the PCGS grading certificate and certified that it was indeed an authentic artifact from the recovery effort. We have a very limited amount of these coins available. Each one comes in a unique presentation box as shown in the pictures.
Please note that the coin shown here may not be the exact coin you receive, however, you can expect the quality and grade to be in-line with the coin we have displayed. The San Francisco Mint struck a total of 970,000 coins in 1857 and most have been lost or destroyed. High end examples of Double Eagles such as those recovered from the SS Central America are highly prized and sought-after. Supplies are very limited.
