The 1891-CC $5 Liberty Head gold coin represents one of the final issues from the legendary Carson City Mint during the classic Liberty Head series. Struck in Nevada during a period of robust silver and gold production from the Comstock Lode, this half eagle carries the coveted CC mint mark that collectors prize for its association with the Old West. The Carson City Mint operated from 1870 to 1893, making this 1891 issue part of the facility's concluding years of operation.

The obverse displays Liberty's profile facing left, wearing a coronet inscribed with "LIBERTY" and surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Christian Gobrecht's elegant design showcases Liberty's flowing hair and refined features with sharp relief and well-defined details. The reverse features a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings, clutching an olive branch and arrows, with a union shield at its breast and the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE D." encircling the design.

Graded MS-62+ by PCGS, this Carson City half eagle exhibits attractive golden surfaces with good luster and well-struck devices throughout. The plus designation indicates quality at the high end of the MS-62 grade range, with superior eye appeal and surfaces. Carson City gold coins remain highly sought after by collectors for their historical significance and relative scarcity compared to their Philadelphia counterparts.
