1907 High Relief Saint Gaudens MS-66
Superb Gem High Reliefs are recognized as miniature works of art and are extremely desirable and tightly held. Containing just under 1 ounce of pure gold, this was supposed to have been the transition coin in 1907 to move from the Liberty Head design over to the new design by sculptor Augustus St. Gaudens. They were struck several times to give each coin a 3-dimensional appearance, or High Relief. However, after 11,250 were struck, they were discontinued and went to normal relief as bankers could not stack the coins because the raised details caused the stacks to fall over. We love high-end High Reliefs and handle them all the time when they can be acquired at a reasonable price.
