After Congress passed the Coinage Act of 1792, it authorized different units of money to be legal tender including Quarter Eagle coins.

The Liberty Head design, created by Christian Gobrecht in 1840, features a portrait of Lady Liberty encircled by 13 stars representing the first 13 colonies while the reverse depicts the famed Heraldic Eagle. $2 ½ Liberty Head Gold coins were struck at: Philadelphia, Charlotte, San Francisco, Dahlonega and New Orleans.

Each coin contains .12094 ounces of pure gold, they will have a range of dates. There are a total of 46 coins in the program with a combined mintage of 11,920,174. These have been slabbed and certified by PCGS/NGC in MS-62 condition.

Originally minted from 1840 to 1907, these "quarter eagle" $2½ gold coins have the "braided hair" style. These coins are perfect additions to any gold coin investment or collection, Collectors who are building Type collections of Liberty Head gold coins can readily find examples from the Philadelphia Mint. However, the $2½ Liberty Head gold coins from the mints in Charlotte, Dahlonega, San Francisco, and New Orleans are much tougher and more expensive.
