This silver denarius was issued in 42 BC by Gaius Cassius Longinus, one of the principal conspirators in the assassination of Julius Caesar. Struck during the tumultuous period following Caesar's death, this coin represents one of the last issues of the Roman Republic before the rise of the Empire. Cassius, serving as legate under Lucius Cornelius Spinther, minted this denarius to fund his military campaigns against the forces of Mark Antony and Octavian.
