This exceptional silver denarius was issued in February 44 BC, approximately one month before Julius Caesar's assassination in March. Struck during Caesar's lifetime with the title DICT PERPETVO (Dictator Perpetuo), this coin represents one of the rare issues honoring Caesar's unprecedented appointment as dictator for life. The denarius served as crucial propaganda during the final months of Caesar's rule, when tensions in Rome were reaching their peak.

The obverse displays a well-executed portrait of Julius Caesar facing right, with his distinctive features clearly defined and the legend CAESAR DICT PERPETVO visible around the rim. The reverse depicts Venus standing left, holding Victory in her extended right hand and a scepter in her left, with MACER to the right and P SEPVLLIVS around the edge. The strike shows excellent detail with sharp relief on both the portrait and the goddess figure.

Graded AU by NGC with Strike 4/5 and Surface 4/5, this denarius exhibits attractive silver surfaces with natural toning and well-preserved details throughout. Roman Imperial denarii of Julius Caesar remain among the most sought-after ancient coins, representing pivotal moments in world history. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
