5 Coin Set | Money of the Bible | With Book

This unique and historically rich five-coin set features ancient coins tied to significant Biblical events, complemented by the award-winning book "Money of the Bible" (2nd Edition). Each coin has its own Biblical and historical importance, offering collectors a direct connection to the ancient world through the coins circulated during pivotal moments of religious and political history.

1) Persia - Sardeis in Lydia (c. 450 BC) Siglos

This Siglos, minted around 450 BC in Sardeis, Lydia, during the height of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, is one of the earliest coins mentioned in the Bible. These silver coins were used in transactions across the Persian Empire and are thought to have been referenced in Nehemiah 5:15. The Siglos would have been handled by people living during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, adding an incredible layer of authenticity to this piece of ancient currency.

2) Greece – Alexander the Great (336-323 BC) Drachm

This Drachm was minted during the reign of Alexander the Great, who conquered vast territories from 336 to 323 BC. As a result, his coins circulated throughout the Mediterranean and beyond. This particular silver drachm features Heracles on the obverse and Zeus on the reverse, symbolizing strength and divine favor. These coins would have been used in the region during the intertestamental period and were likely encountered by people mentioned in Daniel and other prophetic books of the Bible. (p.35)

3) Judaea – Prutah "Widow’s Mite" (130-37 BC)

The Prutah, commonly known as the "Widow's Mite," was a small, low-value coin minted between 130 and 37 BC during the Hasmonean Dynasty. This coin is famously mentioned in the New Testament in Mark 12:41-44 and Luke 21:1-4, where Jesus commends a poor widow for her humble offering of two mites despite their insignificant value. The coin’s simplicity and humble origins remind itself of faith and sacrifice, making it one of the most well-known Biblical coins. (p.77)

4) Judaea – Pontius Pilate (AD 30-31) Prutah

This Prutah was minted during the time of Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, from AD 30-31. Pilate is best known for his role in the trial and crucifixion of Jesus, as documented in all four Gospels. This bronze coin was circulated when Jesus was active in his ministry, and it would have been in common use among the people of Judea. The coin’s connection to Pilate and circulation during one of the most pivotal moments in Christian history make it an important piece for collectors. (p.59)

5) Rome – Julia Maesa (AD 218-222) Denarius

This silver Denarius was struck in honor of Julia Maesa, the grandmother of Emperor Elagabalus and a key political figure in Rome from AD 218 to 222. Julia Maesa was influential in restoring the Severan dynasty to the Roman throne. While not directly mentioned in the Bible, the coin represents the broader Roman world and its influence on the Judean province during the early years of Christianity. Coins like these would have been in circulation during the early church. (p.93)
