A Rare Coin You Should Consider Adding to Your Collection

We won’t drag it out any longer. The coin we think you should consider is the 1903 $20 Liberty Head Gold Coin. What makes it so special? Well first of all, this particular coin had an extremely low production number when you compare it to its younger sibling from 1904. The 1904 $20 Liberty Head Gold Coin was produced in a mintage of over 6 million with around half a million of those being certified in all grades.

The $20 Liberty Head Gold Coin was in production for just over 50 years, running from 1849 until 1907 and unfortunately a large number of the coins that were minted have been lost to time or melted down, making this version from 1903 that much more appealing.

Add to that the fact that it was struck in a handful of different cities (Carson City, Denver, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco) and that there were three different versions of this coin and you have something that’s pretty special. What are the versions, you ask? From 1849 until 1866, coins didn’t have the phrase “In God We Trust” imprinted on the coins. For one decade, from 1866 to 1876, the Liberty Head Gold Coin put “In God We Trust” above the eagle on the reverse of the coin, and from 1877 until its final year in 1907, the coin contained the previously mentioned motto and the value was spelled out as being “TWENTY DOLLARS.”

What Makes It So Collectible?

Each of the coins contains .96750 ounces of pure gold which means that it’s sure to be a prized possession in pretty much any collector’s collection. There are a total of 149 coins in the program and this particular example of 1903 Liberty Head Gold Coins has a particularly low mintage of 287,270 coins and of that number only 23,490 have been certified in all grades by NGC and PCGS.

We have these coins available for a limited time in NGC/PCGS certified boxes of 20 coins and we’re happy to offer them to you for the best price you’re likely to find.
