AD 68-69 Galba Silver Denarius Salus Advancing NGC Extremely Fine

This silver denarius was issued during the brief reign of Emperor Galba from AD 68-69, marking the beginning of the tumultuous Year of the Four Emperors. Galba assumed power following Nero's suicide and the end of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, though his harsh fiscal policies and authoritarian rule made him deeply unpopular with both the Praetorian Guard and the Roman populace.
The obverse displays Galba's distinctive portrait facing right, with his characteristic balding head and stern expression, surrounded by the imperial legend. The reverse depicts Salus advancing left toward a garlanded altar, holding a patera and cornucopia, with the inscription SALUS visible, representing the goddess of health and prosperity who was particularly relevant during this period of political instability.
This denarius has been certified by NGC as Extremely Fine with excellent surface quality and strong strike characteristics. The coin retains sharp detail in both the portrait and reverse imagery, with attractive dark patina throughout. Galba's brief nine-month reign makes his coinage particularly desirable among collectors of Roman Imperial issues. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
